臺灣獨特的地理位置，造就自成一格的季候環境，形塑了島上居民的生活節奏。北迴歸線穿越花蓮、嘉義和澎湖，分屬亞熱帶與熱帶氣候的臺灣，常年高溫有雨；加之山地面積多，海拔高度落差大，因而臺灣擁有得天獨厚的豐富生態，孕育了先來後到的島民與種類繁多的工藝材料，由此，人們順應環境和氣候而發展出了不同因地制宜的生活與工藝。

The unique geographical location has endowed Taiwan with its own climate and environment; it has also shaped the life rhythm for the people. Thus, the gathering times of the raw materials for making crafts also have to follow the rules of seasons. No matter it is crop farming in spring or harvesting in autumn, everything has its rhythm for people to live by periodically.
